Found a large piece of Styrofoam tangled in the mangroves with two mangrove seedlings growing directly from it. I managed to save one seedling, but the other was rooted so deeply into the foam that it broke during removal. A bittersweet reminder of how pollution impacts our ecosystems—and how hard nature fights to survive anyway. 🌱♻️

Deep in the tangled roots of Florida’s coastal mangroves, where saltwater meets land and wildlife thrives in hidden channels, there lives a legend unlike any other—Mangrove Sasquatch.
Not much is known about where he came from. Some say he emerged from the mangroves themselves, shaped by the winds, tides, and mangrove forests of Florida. Others believe he appeared when the coastline needed help the most.
But one thing is certain,Mangrove Sasquatch has a mission.
At sunrise, while most visitors are still asleep, he quietly moves through Florida State Park, navigating muddy trails, shallow creeks, and dense mangrove tunnels with heavy bags filled with plastic bottles, abandoned fishing line, foam containers, cans, and other marine debris left behind by careless visitors or carried in by ocean currents.
He knows every piece of trash removed is one less threat to manatees, sea turtles, birds, fish, and fragile mangrove ecosystem.
As the Florida sun rises higher, park visitors occasionally spot unusual footprints in the sand or a towering figure in the distance hauling bags of debris from the shoreline. By the time they get closer, he’s gone—leaving behind only cleaner beaches, healthier waters, and curiosity.
Mangrove Sasquatch isn’t looking for fame.
His purpose is bigger than recognition.
He reminds people that protecting Florida’s natural beauty isn’t someone else’s job—it belongs to all of us. Every bottle picked up, every fishing line removed, and every bag of trash collected helps preserve these wild spaces for future generations.
And so the legend continues.
